PUPPY INFORMATION

What to Expect From a Summer’s End Puppy

Bringing home a Labrador is a big decision, and we want our families to know exactly what to expect when choosing a Summer’s End puppy.

Our puppies are raised with careful attention to health, temperament, and development from the very beginning. We also believe our responsibility doesn’t end when a puppy leaves our home. We want you to feel prepared for those first days with your puppy and confident knowing we’re here as a resource along the way.

Healthy beginnings. Thoughtful preparation. Support beyond pickup.

HEALTH COMES FIRST

A Strong Foundation Starts With Healthy Parents

Health is one of the most important considerations in every breeding decision we make. Before one of our Labradors becomes part of our breeding program, we want to know as much as possible about the health behind that dog.

Our breeding dogs undergo extensive health testing, including evaluations of the hips, elbows, heart, and eyes, along with genetic testing for conditions known to affect Labrador Retrievers. We also carefully consider the health testing and history behind the dogs we choose to pair with our own.

No breeder can guarantee that a dog will never experience a health problem, but we believe responsible breeding begins with doing everything we reasonably can to make informed decisions before a litter is ever produced.

HIPS & ELBOWS

OFA evaluations help us assess orthopedic health and make informed breeding decisions.

HEART & EYES

Cardiac and eye evaluations are an important part of the health clearances we require for our breeding dogs.

GENETIC TESTING

Our dogs are tested for inherited conditions known to affect Labrador Retrievers so those results can be considered when planning a breeding.

Health testing isn't just something we list on a pedigree. It's part of how we make every breeding decision.

CHIC CERTIFICATION

Our girls complete the recommended health testing required for CHIC certification through the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals.

OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU

A Health Guarantee You Can Understand

We put a great deal of care into the health of our breeding program and the puppies we raise. While no breeder can guarantee that a dog will never experience a health problem, every Summer’s End puppy is covered by a written health guarantee designed to give our families added confidence when bringing their puppy home.

WRITTEN HEALTH GUARANTEE

Every Summer’s End puppy is backed by a written health guarantee. Our agreement includes an initial health guarantee following pickup as well as longer-term protection for qualifying hereditary conditions involving the hips and elbows.

We encourage every family to have their puppy examined by their veterinarian within 72 hours of going home and believe establishing that relationship with your veterinarian is an important part of responsible puppy ownership.

Complete terms of our health guarantee are provided in our Puppy Purchase Agreement, which is available upon request. We are always happy to discuss our health testing, guarantee, and what they mean for your puppy.

OUR HEALTH COMMITMENT

Health is one of the most important considerations in every breeding decision we make at Summer’s End Labradors. The parents of our puppies undergo comprehensive health testing and certifications, including evaluations of the hips, elbows, heart, and eyes, along with genetic testing for conditions known to affect Labrador Retrievers.

We also carefully consider the health clearances found throughout the pedigrees behind our dogs. By looking beyond just the parents and considering generations of health-tested Labradors, our goal is to make thoughtful breeding decisions that give every puppy the best possible start.
